Mike Edison is well-known as the the drummer of garage rock “kings of sleaze” the Raunch Hands. More recently he has fronted his own band – the Edison Rocket Train – to take his love of delta blues, gospel, and punk rock even further. Their first record, YES! YES!! YES!!! has been compared to Bo Diddley and Capt Beefheart, and has been called “Rock n roll madness” by the Village Voice.

They are joined by JON SPENCER ON “THEREMIN” , who is also producing their next effort.

Says Edison: “The secret to the Rocket Train sound is no cymbals – we have a full time maracas player! The emphasis is on the ‘roll’ part of ‘rock n roll.”

For his first solo tour of, Edison will be performing a show called “Interstellar Roadhouse” singing in his deep, emotional voice and playing guitar, slide guitar, a unique two-string “diddley bow” which he invented, and a particularly evil-sounding theremin. He will be performing both traditional and original songs, with an emphasis on “spirituals and blues.”

“You’ll hear some Robert Johnson, some swamp blues, gospel, primitive rock’n’roll, played in the “rocket train” style, and a lot of furturist ranting! It’s like a cross between Howlin Wolf and Sun Ra.”

“The two string guitar is similar to the the one-string ‘diddley bows’ from Africa and the Mississippi Delta. It it is extremely expressive.”
